Is there any better way to spend your days than relaxing in fresh spring air made wild by the ocean’s mist with sunshine abundant on a beach?

Family is forever, grasp every opportunity you can to be together!

When the opportunity presents itself for an escape from our hectic lives to run towards the sunshine with family on vacation…GO! It becomes much needed in the midst of our busy lifestyles. You know the moment…the one where you actually take a deep breathe and slow down the pace of life with a sigh! Yes…claim that for yourself!

Each return trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a reminder to me of one more chance to create memories with my quickly growing family. Time has flown by and our sons are preparing to “fly the coop!” The next stages of life are imminent for my husband and I. We did a great job raising our boys and the obvious next step is their wings spreading and immersion in their own lives! SO, when the opportunity presented itself for all of our lives to align for a week at the ocean together, we seized the moment!

MAGICAL MYRTLE BEACH fulfils each of our individual loves of the ocean, sunshine, kite flying, power walks, shark tooth hunting, southern cuisine, golf, shows, shopping, and March Madness Basketball games rooting for our favorite teams and competing in a bracket against each other out of PURE FUN!

The beaches of South Carolina have typically been our spring break venues along with an occasional spring break cruise over the kids school breaks now and again. As long as we each do not forget those most important TOP 10 THINGS TO PACK for vacation, all should go as planned! But, if we should forget an essential SHOPPING is not a problem for us in MYRTLE BEACH!

Outlet shopping is a favorite of mine too! There is a great outdoor outlet mall near the Bass Pro, also!

For some unknown reason, probably because I live with a household of men, annually we spend a day shopping here. This year I found a floppy beach hat to keep the sun off of my face and neck as I sunburned the first day!

OUR ACCOMMODATIONS

Here is a view of the PH Level of our ocean side accommodations. The building exterior was being painted during our stay. This is a view of how we found our timeshare rental located at the northern end of the beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. ENJOY a tour of our 9th floor, 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo!

HORIZON on 77th

This property has many cool features. There are 2 outdoor pools with one being a lazy river and also indoor pool options with hot tubs at both locations, a 6th floor terrace with heated tables (located right off our balcony), a fitness room complete with weights for our athlete traveling with us, and super convenient 4 levels of parking.

The hotel sits kitty-corner to the ocean. Parking is located on Levels P1-P4 which was convenient for stashing our beach chairs and kites in the trunk of the car instead of hauling them up to the condo each day.

This timeshare rental is a newer property than our usual accommodations down the beach to the south off the boardwalk. Last trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, our vehicle was broken into at that previously mentioned monitored parking garage for that other property. Even with this unfortunate event, we really enjoy Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and it’s beaches. So many really fond memories overshadow this one minor negative episode! The only negatives about this property that we we discovered were that their was NO TOWEL EXCHANGE?, you take out your own garbage, no grills available, the roof top terrace with heated tables closed from 9pm-9am. The perfect viewing time for star gazing found the terrace closed. On this trip most of the amenities were closed due to painting maintenance.

We found it odd that pool towels were able to be exchanged daily, but daily room towel exchanges for bath towels and kitchen towels were not offered, as we have experienced with various other properties that we have enjoyed within this same timeshare company. On vacation, I’m not really interested in washing hotel towels. Perhaps this property just operates differently. The staff was very courteous and polite at all times.

Our boys are college athletes and follow a pretty structured work out program. Mid use of this fitness room the equipment just stopped working and maintenance had to be called to fix the electrical problem. This same problem happened on our last visit to this property. I’m thinking they have a recurrent electrical issue here and do not address it. Cardio could be completed on the beach running there. The free weights do not require electricity, so it all worked out!

We have been spoiled at other properties with balconies that provided direct ocean views along with glorious sunrise and sunsets. Direct ocean views were not present from our balcony only partial views from the 9th floor  PH Level. It was still magical!

 

Overall this was a great experience here. We were looking for a quieter experience than right off the boardwalk as we’ve had in previous years. We also wanted to distance ourselves from crowds and experience a quieter beach away from the majority of spring breakers. My husband was just as successful with his shark teeth finds too! This resort did provide us with what we were looking for this year. If one understand the whole resort picture though, it helps to make an informed decision prior to travel!

POWER WALKS, TRICK KITE FLYING, HOT WING PUB CRAWL

My goal on this spring break trip focused on relaxing, resting, and recharging. Lots of long walks and deep breaths of clean ocean are on the agenda! I LOVE long walks with my audio books. SO ENJOYABLE!

Daily the temperatures were great in the mid 70s with the sunshine abundant! One day the wind was a force to be reckoned with though! Gale force winds came through with the threat of a tornado watch. Later the weather died down and the sunshine provided us with a golden evening glow! This crazy weather provided an opportunity for spontaneous creative beach enjoyment.

We brought our trick kites with us to the ocean in hopes of ocean breezes to fuel the kites. Well THAT HAPPENED with the Gale force winds that arrived!

Later in this same day the beach’s sky turned threatening. The creative idea of a HOT CHICKEN WING CRAWL came to life! We each picked what we thought would be the best chicken wing place to try and mapped out a route to go try MYRTLE BEACHES BEST HOT CHICKEN WINGS for the afternoon!

 

 

So, we left the beach and came up with a creative way to spend the afternoon with this entertainment!

AND THE WINNER WAS….CAROLINA ROAD HOUSE! It was such a great place! We really enjoyed this atmosphere and the blue cheese dressing was SUPERIOR! The chicken wings were crispy and delicious. We also couldn’t resist the baked crab dip and  chili cheese fries!

SPORTS BARS  TO WATCH MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT

We have made a tradition over the years to watch games at THORNY’s. We each fill out a bracket separately then compete to have the most overall correct picks. Whoever picks the most correctly wins a prize! Each year we seem to be in Myrtle Beach for a portion of the games and land here at Thorny’s to watch a game! We especially LOVE IT when our MSU Spartans are having a good year with a good team.  Enjoy photos from this year and past years of our family at Thorny’s.

A few different evenings we stopped after the day at the beach at the driving range for easy entertainment prior to dinner or appetizers. We giggled and had mini competitions on who could drive the furthest with the borrowed drivers from the local driving range!

There are several mini golf places in Myrtle Beach. They are about a mile apart on the strip and various in theme and quality. We chose one to mess around before dinner one evening. I actually hit 2 different holes in one (back to back). I love when the guys get frustrated. Usually the least I try the better I do! 🙂

While I can sit at the beach for hours and hours, such is not the case for the men in my life. If they do not have some kind of activity to occupy them, they become bored. They need to be in motion. They took off to hang out with friends from college for an afternoon. They threw the football and frisbee. They flew kites, spent time on jogs down the shore and searched many hours for shark teeth or perfect Carolina shells.

We tend to enjoy the sunset pre-dinner time along with a cocktail hour on our private balcony or out on public spaces maybe around the pool playing cards. The spectacular sunsets at the ocean set the mood for a most enjoyable evening! We have been so fortunate to have excellent weather on our vacations and fabulous experiences with sunsets! Do you enjoy a beautiful sunset daily or just on vacation? These precious moments are priceless to me. It provides me with those stolen chunks of time to feed my need for INNER STILLNESS.  This is necessary every day!

SUNRISE… There is no more peaceful moment that I can begin to explain than this exact moment. Do you enjoy a SUNRISE or SUNSET? I I set the clock on the coffee pot so it will be brewed when I wake up! Nothing is worse than trying to figure out a new coffee pot from a rental condo in the dark when you are not fully awake. I don’t work well with cobwebs in the brain in early morning when the coffee isn’t flowing yet! Enjoy early morning coffee out on the balcony, allow the soothing sounds of the ocean within your soul over steaming java… What a great way to greet the day!

Recharging our batteries is essential. The ocean has many healing qualities, tranquility is amongst one of the most important. The ocean possesses this magical quality to transition our stress from a shroud around us into a cloud lifting to float it away.

Long walks on the ocean trigger long talks with God for me too! This time of serenity and peacefulness always passes quickly as I get lost in conversations with God. This unparalleled bonding time of spiritual growth is treasured.
